Sunburn Relief

Did you know that when out in the summer sun unprotected skin can burn in less than 15 minutes? Even being outside on cool, cloudy days can lead to sunburn with the painful tell-tale signs of inflammation starting to appear within about 2–6 hours.

Applying Sigmacort 1% cream to the exposed areas can help soothe and calm tender, red and swollen sunburn.

Sunburn is a form of radiation burn.

Ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun penetrates the upper layers of your skin damaging the skin cells and their DNA. This triggers your immune system to react — blood vessels dilate increasing the blood flow to damaged areas, bring immune cells to the skin and causing the redness, swelling, itchiness and inflammation that comes with sunburn.

Need sunburn relief or a soothing cream for sunburn? Sunburnt skin can be pink or red, feel hot and painful to touch, and can become itchy. Mild, itchy sunburn symptoms can be managed at home with over-the-counter medications such as Sigmacort. However, more severe sunburn which has swollen, blistered or broken skin will require immediate medical attention.

It is important to start treating sunburn as soon as you notice it — but remember sunburn cannot be ‘cured’ and your skin will need time to heal itself.

Each time you get sunburnt, you are increasing your risk of developing skin cancer — so it’s best to cover up, use sunscreen or stay out of the sun’s harmful rays and try to prevent sunburn occurring in the first place.
